It is dedicated to Okuninushi no Mikoto, a deity of the Izumo Taisha Shrine lineage.
The ceremony begins with a traditional procession to the shrine to pray for a good marriage and the prosperity of both families.
Accompanied by the music of Gagaku (traditional Japanese court music), the ceremony is solemnly held with the couple dressed in white kimono, colored haori hakama, and white or colored uchikake (formal kimono).
