Our executive chef and patissier visited Oz Berry Farm Onizawa Strawberry Orchard in Hokota City, Ibaraki Prefecture.
Blessed with a mild climate throughout the year, Hokota City is ideal for agriculture. Oz Berry Farm Onizawa Strawberry Orchard, winner of the grand prize at the 11th Ibaraki Strawberry Grand Prix, is a reliable grower that values the entire process of strawberry cultivation until it is handed directly to the customer, and their commitment to strawberry cultivation cannot be overlooked.
Certified as Eco Farmers under the Sustainable Agriculture Act, they use as little pesticides and chemical fertilizers as possible, and utilize enzymes that produce microorganisms to maximize the power of nature. They have also installed special environmental measurement equipment to thoroughly control temperature, humidity, and ventilation in their strawberry greenhouses.

Peach and Mango Sweets Buffet (7/13-7/15)

Furano Melon Sweets Buffet (8/10-8/12)

The melons in this issue were produced by Furano Presents, Inc. In addition to melons, Furano Presents produces a wide variety of agricultural products, including tomatoes, pumpkins, and potatoes. In order to provide safe and secure agricultural products, the company minimizes the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers and actively introduces new technologies and systems. As a result, we are able to provide stable, high-quality agricultural products and have acquired JGAP certification.

The purchasing manager, executive chef, and patissier of the Tokyo Bay Maihama Hotel First Resort traveled to Hokkaido to inspect the melons, meet with the growers in person, and taste the melons. Impressed by the sincerity and commitment of Furano Presents, they decided to purchase additional green melons on the spot. The Purchasing Manager and Executive Chef had the following to say about their impressions of the site visit. We were introduced to Furano Presents Inc. by a business partner we have had a relationship with. I found the staff to be kind and sincere. I tasted not only the red flesh melons, which are produced with great care, but also the green flesh melons, which were so delicious and juicy that I suddenly decided to purchase green flesh melons as well. I wanted our customers to taste this deliciousness.”

Grapes and Yellow Peach Sweets Buffet (9/14-9/16)

JA Fruits Yamanashi’s jurisdiction includes Koshu City where Katsunuma Town is located, Yamanashi City, Fuefuki-City, and Kasugai District, and is one of the leading fruit tree production areas in Japan. The fertile land and rich natural environment make it a place that truly deserves to be called a “fruit kingdom. The grapes used in this project are of the highest quality and are the result of the bounty of Yamanashi Prefecture. The patissier and our project manager actually visited JA Fruits Yamanashi to inspect the cultivation site.

According to Mr. Horiuchi, executive director of JA Fruits Yamanashi, the taste and sugar content of grapes vary depending on the altitude of the production area, but thorough quality control and agricultural guidance to growers have ensured that the quality of grapes is high enough to be highly evaluated at grape fairs.
Mr. Oka led us on a tour of the grape farm, where we saw firsthand a variety of grape varieties, such as the Cheinmuscat, black and red grapes, and others. The “one branch, one bunch” method of growing grapes is practiced, which concentrates nutrition in one bunch to increase sugar content, and we were able to experience some of the time and effort that goes into the cultivation of these grapes.
